At Métis Crossing, we know that you don’t want to spend the rest of your summer thinking of things to do around Edmonton and are likely looking for outdoor activities near Edmonton that will provide a fun and educational experience for the whole family.
Well, we have the answer for you! Métis Crossing is the first major Métis cultural interpretive centre in Alberta and is a premier destination for Alberta Métis cultural interpretation, education, and gatherings. Sitting on 512-acres of land, comprised of river lot titles from the original Métis settlers to the region in the late 1800s, the crossing is designed to engage and excite visitors through an exploration of Métis cultural experiences. Daily Experiences

Métis Crossing is pleased to offer daily experiences included in the price of general admission. These activities include historical exhibits, art installations, and daily Métis spotlights. Our Métis cultural interpretive experiences are programmed daily on our Métis Spotlights schedule. Upon your arrival you may choose to visit the Interpretive spaces as listed in order of that specific day’s schedule or feel free to wander throughout Métis Crossing at your leisure.

Signature Experiences

Métis Crossing offers visitors the opportunity to participate in guided cultural interpretive experiences, sharing the distinct Indigenous story of the Métis people in an interactive way.

Paddle into the Past

Running in the summer months, Paddle into the Past is a 4-hour immersive Indigenous experience linking two historic sites with a Voyageur canoe trip along a historic fur trade route. This experience is a perfect blend of culture, the great outdoors, and Métis history!

Walk in Our Mocs

Walk in Our Mocs is a two-hour immersive Indigenous experience telling the story of survival on the land and the Métis way of life within the significant Victoria District National Historic Site. During your time in this experience, visitors will spend time on an historic Métis River Lot and explore the boreal forest of the North Saskatchewan River Valley, raise their bow and arrow and practice your target shooting skills and discover the diversity of plants and animals that call Métis Crossing home.

The Lodge at Métis Crossing

It is with great excitement that we anticipate the opening of our Lodge at Métis Crossing in Fall 2021! With its unique design that combines both traditional and contemporary Métis craftmanship, The Lodge at Métis Crossing will be a special blend of comfort, culture, and Métis history.

Directly adjacent to the Métis Crossing Cultural Gathering Centre, the 40-room boutique lodge offers scenic views overlooking the majestic North Saskatchewan River, the very route used by our Métis ancestors as they gathered at this very spot.

Just imagine – once refreshed from a sleep in your cozy and comfortably appointed guestroom you will be welcome to join us at the main floor Bistro for coffee and express breakfast. After a day of exploration and experiences, we will invite you to enjoy our second-floor Lounge with cocktails and light snacks. With its floor to ceiling windows, you are sure to revel in the evening nightscape of stars and constellations
