Let us introduce you to Métis crossing and the Métis peoples through art, dance, story telling, nature and traditional practices. Join our Métis interpreter in an exploration of the unique history, culture, language, and way of life of traditional Métis people. Step inside historic river lot homes that once belonged to the Sinclair and Cromerty families that settled here in the 1800’s. Put yourself in the shoes of these families as you explore their homes and yards and live how they once lived on this very lot.


What's included

Your journey begins with an exploration of the rich history of the Métis Nation at our Veteran’s Monument. Walk along the Old Victoria Trail, following in the footsteps of the Métis families who came west to settle here on the beautiful North Saskatchewan River, and travel back in time at our Historic Village. Here, you’ll meet the animals in our traditional River Lot farmyard, learn about the iconic Métis Red River Cart, explore the original River Lot homes of the Sinclair and Cromarty families, and experience first-hand how Métis families lived on these very lands.

Finally, get in touch with your artistic side and learn a traditional art project that you can take home as a reminder of your experience at Métis Crossing! This Signature Experience is a perfect introduction for guests of all ages to immerse themselves in the unique Indigenous story of the Métis people.

Is this experience suitable for all ages?

Yes, Meet the Métis is designed for guests of all ages to immerse themselves in the unique Indigenous story of the Métis people. There are activities tailored for both adults and children to enjoy together.

Do I need to bring anything with me for the experience?

Participants should dress comfortably and appropriately for outdoor exploration, as some activities may take place outdoors. It’s also recommended to bring water, sunscreen, and any personal items you may need. All materials for the traditional art project will be provided.

Can I purchase souvenirs or gifts at Métis Crossing?

Yes, we have a gift shop in our Gathering Centre where you can purchase items related to Métis culture and history. Additionally, the traditional art project you create during the experience is a unique souvenir to take home.
