Métis Crossing Testimonials

We have been honoured to host hundreds of students and their teachers over the course of several years. Learn about their experiences and thoughts about their time at the Crossing in these testimonials.

In August of 2019 École Campbelltown went to Metis Crossing for some professional development. This was one of the most valuable and engaging Professional Development sessions we have done in a long time. We learned about the history of the Metis people in Alberta, the ins and outs of the new TQS requirements, danced the jig, took part in weaving / beading / a craft using fish scales / birch bark and other natural items. We also had a meal together, which was topped off with Bannock. It was an absolutely, beautiful and relaxing learning environment, we were surrounded by nature, history and the amazing team of leaders at the Crossing.

Kudos to Metis Crossing for an overall, outstanding experience!

Métis Crossing is a wonderful place to immerse yourself in Métis culture, past and present. The lovingly restored historical buildings, knowledgeable friendly staff and interactive experiences make the history and culture of Métis come alive. The beautiful new gathering space will show all visitors Métis people and their culture continue to thrive. Stories and lessons from the land are the real gems of Métis Crossing; walking along the North Saskatchewan is always the highlight of my visits. It is a special place that invites you to relax, connect and reflect. Time at the Crossing invokes strong happy memories and makes me feel like I am visiting family.

Visiting Metis crossing is always a unique experience. This amazing heritage site provides multiple learning opportunities that are designed to provide deeper connection and knowledge to Metis culture and community through hands on programming that is rooted in Metis history, culture and traditions.

Kelsey Bradburn, Children and Family Services Director, Métis Nation of Alberta June 9, 2020

The MNA Youth Programs and Services department has had the opportunity to hold culture camps and a variety of programming at Métis Crossing. The youth who attend these programs have shared with us the love that they have for the site, and how it connects them to their culture, heritage, and history as Métis people. On the land teachings have always been a key priority for Métis youth and that is exactly what they get to experience at Métis Crossing. The staff at Métis Crossing help make the site come to life, bringing history to the present in an exciting and engaging way, and we are excited to continue running camps and attending programs at Métis Crossing.

We are so excited about our partnership with Métis Crossing!

Being able to explore our Métis story with others at Métis Crossing grounds us in our roots. Together we share space that allows for opportunities to teach and learn together.

We are excited to open our Rupertsland Centre for Teaching and Learning classroom at Métis Crossing! This is a place where we can deliver professional learning to educators and system leaders. We are also able to experience land-based learning opportunities with the educational programming Métis Crossing offers like, “Tales of the Trap Line’”. It has been exciting to work in partnership in making curricular connections with the educational programs Métis Crossing offers.

Métis Crossing provides a safe, welcoming environment for individuals to learn about Métis history and culture.
As a proud Métis woman, I always feel a sense of peace and contentment visiting with Krista, Lily-Rose, Leon, and Juanita.

When I leave I feel a sense of calm knowing that I will be returning soon.

I wanted to thank you and the staff for the PD you’ve provided the staff of HAK. The day in January was well organized and well-paced. The facility is amazing and we are very lucky to live so close. I look forward to arranging more learning sessions with staff and students in the future.

Dick Richards, Principal, H. A. Kostash School June 16, 2020

We have had the privilege of visiting your cutting edge facility with students and as the leadership team. Both experiences we were warmly greeted by knowledgeable staff. The vast facility is situated on the river creating the perfect backdrop for authentic learning opportunities regarding the Metis Culture. I would recommend a visit at least once…

We held a one day retreat with school administrators, division leaders and our Board of Trustees at Metis Crossing. Participants rated it as one of the most impactful days we had learning together as a group. Leon and Krista worked closely with our team to ensure that our expectations for the day were met. The welcoming and warm reception we received made lasting memories for all of the participants. We will return.
