Sky Watching Cabins
The Sky Watching Cabins are private family accommodations with large glass windows designed for stargazing in the dark skies of rural Alberta. Each cabin sleeps up to 6 guests and includes a separate king bedroom, bunk beds, a kitchenette, heated floors, a private bathroom, and a patio with Adirondack chairs. Located at Métis Crossing near Smoky Lake, Alberta, approximately 2 hours northeast of Edmonton, the cabins connect guests with the same skies Métis ancestors used to navigate, track seasons, and understand the land.

Sleeping Arrangements
The cabins have one king bed in a separate bedroom and a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a twin on the top. One cabin has a pull-out sofa.
Bathroom
The bathroom has showers, no tubs. shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels and blow dryer.
Kitchenettes
The kitchen has a sink with spray handle, mini fridge, dish soap, utensils, 4 plates, 4 cups, 4 coffee cups, 4 bowls, iron & board, microwave, keurig, coffee pods (breakfast blend and medium roast), plug in kettle, sugar & splenda.
Outdoor Features
The cabins offer a patio with two Adirondak chairs to relax. Portable gas firepits are available upon request.
Indoor Features
The cabins offer a fold down table in the main living space, large counter surface with bar stools as well as heated floors and air conditioning.

What Is the Difference Between the Sky Watching Cabins and the Sky Watching Domes?
The Sky Watching Cabins are rustic-style family accommodations with two large glass windows designed for stargazing. The Sky Watching Domes feature a fully transparent ceiling for unobstructed 360-degree sky views and are available in single and family configurations. Both options are located on the Métis Crossing property and include kitchenettes, heated floors, private bathrooms, and access to cultural programming on site.
Can You See the Northern Lights From the Sky Watching Cabins?
The Sky Watching Cabins are located near Smoky Lake, Alberta, a region known for minimal light pollution. While aurora sightings cannot be guaranteed, the two large glass windows in each cabin face the sky, and the outdoor patio provides additional open-air viewing when northern lights activity is present.
Are the Sky Watching Cabins Available Year-Round?
Yes. The sky-watching cabins are available year-round. Winter visits offer the longest nights and the best stargazing conditions, while summer provides warmer temperatures for enjoying the outdoor patio. Guests are encouraged to check availability for their preferred travel dates.
Is Breakfast or Dining Included With a Cabin Stay?
Dining is not included in the cabin rate. Each cabin includes a kitchenette that has a sink, mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee pot, teapot, and dishes. The bistro at the lodge serves breakfast and meals and is available to overnight guests during operating hours.
Is There Parking Available at the Sky Watching Cabins?
Yes. Complimentary on-site parking is available for all guests staying at Métis Crossing, including those in the sky-watching cabins.
Do the Sky Watching Cabins Include Access to Cultural Programming?
Yes. Cabin guests have access to the cultural experiences, daily activities, workshops, and programming offered at Métis Crossing during their stay, including land-based learning and Métis heritage experiences.

The existing Dome and Cabins are ready for immediate use, however, future enhancements are under development in contribution to the Sage and Spruce spa, including landscaping around the premises, as well as our pathways and walkways from the parking lot to these accommodations.
