Professional Development for Educators

Métis Crossing offers curriculum-based student experiences and educational activities. We work closely with educators and Métis knowledge holders to provide meaningful and enjoyable educational opportunities for students of all ages.

Métis Crossing works to share the Métis Story with all people. We have designed the Professional Development Day for Educators to intentionally hold space for Métis ways of knowing, being and doing within your teaching practice.

Enjoy the Land-Based Professional Development Experience at $99 participant.

We will begin together in the Cultural Gathering Center with a welcome greeting from our knowledge holder to start our day in a good way. We will then get into our groups to be guided to their first activity area:

Meet the Métis & Traditional Arts Element

We will reconvene with the whole group for a traditional lunch of bannock and stew. In the afternoon, Groups 1 and 2 will switch program areas and we will come back together after our activities are finished for a closing circle.

Overview of Programs

Rupertsland Institute’s Métis Education Resources for your Teaching Space

This session is designed for participants to explore several authentic, recommended Métis educational materials that help to create teachable moments and provide foundational learning opportunities throughout the school year. Building your foundational knowledge about Métis will empower you to select authentic, accurate resources that honour distinct Métis perspectives to weave into your current teaching practice. Together we will explore resources designed by Métis educators that weave Métis voices into your learning.

Meet the Métis for Educators

Guided by a Métis Interpreter, this journey provides participants with the opportunity to explore life on the land with an introduction to Métis values, and ways of being, knowing, and doing.

We will venture outside, immersing ourselves in the sights, sounds, and scents of the natural world.
