Culinary Experiences at Métis Crossing
July 10, 2023

At Métis Crossing, enjoying Indigenous-inspired cuisine is an important part of our immersive Indigenous experience.

Culinary experiences at Métis Crossing have been developed to share and preserve Métis Culinary heritage while fostering community connections and promoting sustainability, health and respect for nature. We believe in the idea of Wahkohtowin, which means the importance of connections and unity among people, communities, and the environment, influencing the culinary experiences provided to visitors.

Our stories come from our families and our ancestors, and in many ways these stories are best shared around the table. The stories of our food harvesting and preparation share a great deal about who we are as a people.

Connecting to Our Culture

While developing our culinary experiences, our approach is to create amazing dishes that our guests will travel miles to enjoy. . By embracing the concept of Wahkohtowin, at Métis Crossing  we are committed to growing and harvesting many of our ingredients from our own land, The menu changes with the seasons and what nature has to offer, featuring ingredients such as bison, saskatoons, trout, and raspberries.

Our favorite dishes come from a fusion – of past and present, of European and First Nations, of local and international. We pick the best from all worlds to create dishes that are distinctly Métis. Traditionally, the Métis were buffalo hunters with lifestyles dependent on the buffalo hunt. When the skilled Métis hunters were not on a buffalo hunt, they spent time hunting other animals for food such as moose, elk, mule deer, prairie bush rabbit and wild birds such as prairie chicken, sage grouse, duck and geese. Fish was also a major source of food for the Métis people. The Métis also gathered wild berries, edible wild plants, and turnips, which were peeled and dried, then pounded them into flour for use in Bannock.

Our menus throughout Métis Crossing have been thoughtfully designed by our world-class chefs with our history in mind to share our distinct Indigenous story with you in a new and delicious way.
